Il supercomputer Frontier, sito presso l'Oak Ridge National Laboratory,
basato su processori AMD EPYC ed acceleratori gracifici AMD Instinct è
il primo a superare la barriera del exascale.
 
Sviluppato insieme ad HPE, Frontier si è classificato al 1° posto sia nella
Top500 che nella Green500, con 1,102 exaflop di performance e
62,68 gigaflops/watt di efficienza energetica.

LUMI is the first pre-exascale supercomputer of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and is now Europe’s most powerful supercomputer. It will be inaugurated on Monday 13 June 2022 in Kajaani. LUMI offers European researchers a world-class tool for understanding complicated phenomena, such as climate change. LUMI serves as a platform for international research cooperation and for the development of artificial intelligence and quantum technology. Part of the resources of the computer will focus on industrial research and development activities. LUMI’s environmentally friendly solutions distinguish it from supercomputers known for their heavy use of energy. LUMI is a key tool in promoting digital and green transition throughout society.

LUMI consists of HPE Cray EX nodes with 2,560 nodes consisting of one 64-core AMD EPYC "Trento" CPU and four AMD Instinct MI250X GPUs. Meanwhile the "LUMI-C" partition is just CPU-focused and contains 64-core AMD EPYC 7003 series CPUs in 1,536 dual-socket nodes. LUMI also has 64 NVIDIA A40 GPUs used for visualization workloads. While pre-Exascale, globally LUMI currently is ranked the third fastest supercomputer in the world.
