Features -

Commercial restrictions:

"Album" is CPU embedded, if you lost or change the CPU, you must buy and register the application again.

Thumbnail based architecture;

More than 9,000 records (1,500 pages), see "application components" for details;

255 bytes length of the picture & movie file name;

Unlimited length of the note per picture (depend on database limits) (Note);

Additional unlimited length of the note per picture (Additional Note);

Additional 255 byte length field for search and grouping (Reference);

Encrypted database and security password for database security;

The content of pictures files can be inserted/extracted into/from the database (Picture file IN/OUT);

All fields of the database can be sorted;

Multi-user environment:

Database access from concurrent processes;

All the "Loader" and "Records" section operations are serialized (pessimistic concurrency), the table is not locked, note updates can be executed;

"Pictures" section operations, notes updates (optimistic concurrency), if two user are updating the same picture, the first update is taken, the second update is lost and the user is warned with a concurrency error message box;

Use a convenient files naming for each user;

The application is engineered for memory optimization, some operations are a bit slow (for thousand of records);

Restrictions:

The picture file name is unique.You cannot load the same picture file more than once. To semplify the "Export / Import" section;

Following features will be not implemented:

- Note, Additional notes with RTF support;

Application details:

Microsoft GDI+ library;

Microsoft Visual Basic .NET 2003 Standard Edition;

Microsoft Windows Xp Professional, Windows 98 Second Edition;

Compiled and tested with OLE DB, ADO.NET technology and Microsoft Access (Jet-4.0);

Application components:

You must install the version 1.1.4322 or later of Microsoft .Net Framework;

To support more than 9,000 records: If you have a database with a large number of files you must update the following Windows XP system parameter with "regedit": HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Jet4.0\MaxLocksPerFile from 9500 (decimal value) to "ANY NUMBER OF RECORDS" (decimal value).

For Microsoft Windows XP SP2 only, you do not need to install MDAC 2.8 or higher.

For Windows 98 Second Edition MDAC 2.8 (2.80.1022.3) or later must be installed. On single-cpu and little memory computers (64MB) do not use threads to display pictures because it is very slow or could hang the system.

Supported file types:

mov, "QuickTime TM" player is required,

divx, "DivX TM Bundle" is required,

rm, "RealPlayer/RealOne TM" is required,

pdf, "Acrobat Reader TM" is required,

exe, "Macromedia Flash Player TM" is required,

The directory structure is the following:

whatever | whatever db file ".mdb"

device\dir | "data" must exist

c:\db1\

              ... dir1\          (Database root directory) browser-dir1.mdb

                        \data

                                  ...all pictures & multimedia files...

c:\db2\...

              ... dir2\          (Database root directory)  browser-dir2.mdb

                       \data

                                  ...all pictures & multimedia files...

...etc...

To upload a movie and an image together, the file name must be the same (ex: mymovie.jpg mymovie.mov).
